Aussies Shock The World

Australia’s newest dynamic Helloworld Travel Beach Volleyroos duo of Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have done it again!

The Aussie wonder girls in just their second tournament together have crushed all comers including Poland in the final 21-11, 21-10 to claim an FIVB World tour Gold Medal.

A powerful "six pack" finish on match point to really make a statement.

The win comes on the back of last weeks Gold Medal win in Japan in their first tournament together.

The combination is surprising many “Trust and belief in ourselves and each other. We were provided freedom to just go & play our game in the wind. T and I did a really good job of sticking together & aggressive” says Artacho.

Taliqua Clancy says “Moving forward we have one more tournament on this tour so we will enjoy the Gold medal now and then start preparing for AVC in Palembang next week. If we can get out of China with a Typhoon in the region”

“I am really excited! We just try to play our best volleyball and go out and see what we can do. It has been enjoyable, every game and every match to play, so getting the benefit of winning this is absolutely an extra bonus,” Clancy added. “The World Tour is getting more difficult. We will just keep going and hopefully we can get more podiums.”

The future is looking bright for this pair should they stick together but there's still no certainty they will continue on as a duo for Commonwealth Games selection. That decision will come when they return to Australia at the end of the month.

Volleyball Australia President Craig Carracher says "Champions! The last gold medal for Australia at this standard was 2007 Natalie Cook and Tamsin Hinchley (2012 Olympians). This is a great result for our sport."

Carracher added "While the gold medal is fantastic we must acknowledge it's a team effort from our Helloworld Travel Volleyroos. A special mention to Louise Bawden, Jess Ngauamo, Cole Durant and Zachery Schubert who all contributed to this gold medal victory in China for our Volleyroos."
