All in readiness for U23 beach championships

Capacity fields are expected for next week’s return of the Australian U23 Beach Volleyball Championships.

Organisers are confident there will be 24 men’s and 24 women’s teams lining up on Coolangatta Beach from next Friday for the Australian title.

The event is expected to attract players from overseas, including teams from Vanuatu.

Australia’s best U23 teams will all be in action, including top local hopes Phoebe Bell and Jess Ngauamo, and national team representatives Marcus Ferguson and Paul Barnett, and Bryce Pollard and Connor Spence.

The Championships will also give players an early look at the venue for next year’s Commonwealth Games, where beach volleyball will be making its debut.

Next week’s event will be played on the sand at Coolangatta, while the Commonwealth Games will be contested on specially constructed courts on the nearby grassed area.

The U23 Australian Championships will run from January 20-22.
