75 teams register for the 30th Australian Junior Volleyball Championships

The AIS in Canberra will play host to 75 teams representing seven states and territories as well as International teams from New Zealand and Thailand in the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships (AJVC) from 29 September.

With 75 teams registering, it will be one of the largest AJVC in recent memory.

The Western Australia are sending seven teams featuring 70 athletes from the under 14 girls to the under 19 boys.

The WA under 14 girls team, led by coaches Jimmie Mok and Misa Tagomori, are competing at the AJVC, with this being the first year the under 14 division has been included in the Australian Junior Championships program.

Dylan Wood is returning to the competition as coach of the under 15 boys. The team just missed out on making it through to the gold medal game in 2018. Jeremy Baird, who played in the under 19 division last year, will be Dylan’s assistant coach.

Western Australian under 15 girls silver medal winning team from 2018 have a number of key players returning again this year, with Australian Volleyball League player, Tenille Ryan, coaching the team. She is ably assisted by Volleyroo, Jennifer Sadler.

Queensland Volleyball regards the AJVC as the pinnacle event on the junior calendar. In response, Queensland will be represented by 17 teams across four age groups, with 39 support staff comprising coaches, medical and Queensland Volleyball personnel.

Tasmania will be sending an under 19 girls team to the championships. It’s the first time Tasmania has sent a team to the AJVC since 2015 and only the second team fielded from the State in the championships since 2007.

The Tasmanian under 19 team will be coached by Peter Hutchinson who took a team to the AJVC in 1990. His assistant coach will be Gilly Millar, who played in 2015.

The local ACT representatives are looking forward to welcoming visiting sides. This year, 10 teams will be competing, making this one of the largest representation from the home jurisdiction.

The Australian Junior Volleyball Championships takes place in Canberra from 29 September to 5 October. There will be plenty of action, with so many teams making the trip to Canberra to compete this year. Additionally, there will be stalls adding to the atmosphere selling Volleyball Australia gear and official AJVC merchandise.
